When it comes to your baby’s nursery you can definitely have some fun with colour. In fact, before we talk nurseries let’s talk about how colour can effect your baby.
If you’re looking for something soothing for your baby green is your colour. Green can be calming and refreshing in a space.
Subtle yellow in a nursery can spark concentration and emotive thoughts. Keep in mind that too much bright yellow may agitate your baby.
Fun fact, red is the colour that babies see the most when their vision kicks in. This colour is vibrant and playful.
With all of this in mind, I have created three different nurseries with these colours in mind.
This room has a mix of blue and green. The inspiration started with these polka dot decals. Aren’t they adorable!? I love this soothing green art for the wall with some animal cuteness. It’s important to mix colours in a room so that things don’t look too matchy matchy. Don’t worry if your blues and greens don’t match. The tone on tone variations will add texture and depth to your space. Up next, some fun storage. You know how much I love these pints. Some hints of bright blue as our dominant colour in the space. You can find that in the crib sheets and the baby blanket. I also love the idea of using this milestone blanket as wall art. I’ve added this amazing rocker but you could add a green or blue rocker/glider if you’d prefer more colour and this crib is just so gorgeous. I love the sleek lines and the natural wood. It would work in any of the three nurseries I’ve created here.
In the yellow room you’ll find I used a combination of subtle yellow tones and mixed in a variety of other colours to bring this room to life. I love this colourful crib sheet. If you’ve read my posts in the past you know that I love to incorporate sheets that play with colour and pattern. It’s a great place to do that! Up next, this adorable giraffe blanket I just can’t get enough of. This would be a great gift for a baby shower. If you’d like to have a bumper on your crib why not add some colour to that too? I thought this polka dot bumper was fun, playful and had the perfect amount of colour. Plus, it has two sides so you can change them around when you’re feeling like something different. Of course, some adorable pints for practical storage. I also love how they help to bring the colours of the room together. Last but not least, the glider and crib to complete this beautiful nursery.
This room is quite bold with the predominant colour being red but I find it to be so much fun! Remember not to have ‘too much’ red or it may stimulate your child. Instead, add some pops throughout the room and use neutral furniture pieces to balance things out. I thought this polka dot crib sheet was just so cute. From there I added this airplane pillow. Please keep in mind that you should remove this pillow from the crib when your baby starts sleeping in it. It would look adorable on the glider as well. I also couldn’t get enough of this ‘Merry Go Round’ Mobile. This would look adorable in a pink room or yellow room as well. Can’t forget the colourful storage from Pehr Designs. This stripe might be my favourite. Lastly, I decided to add some natural wood to warm up the space. Check out this incredible two toned crib from Franklin & Ben. And… it’s convertible so it can grow with your child.
So there you have it. Three colourful nurseries that are not your traditional pink or blue. Which one is your favourite? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
