Cindy – Burlington’s Gender Predicting General Manager –
If you’ve been to our Snuggle Bugz/Nestled store in Burlington there’s a great chance that you’ve met the General Manager Cindy. But did you know that she has a sixth sense for determining babies gender in utero? Read on to find out more!
How did you come to join the Snuggle Bugz team?
I joined team Snuggle Bugz 10 years ago… seems like a really long time ago. I applied the old fashion way to a job posting in the newspaper, The Burlington Post. I got hired on to work 2 days a week specifically selling car seats and strollers and I’m still here. Same location just have done a multitude of different positions to where I am today, the General Manager of the Burlington store of Snuggle Bugz and Nestled.
How would you explain your job to a toddler?
Well, I see toddlers every day, so I think that I would tell them that I am able to help Moms and Dads build out their baby’s furniture and nursery needs as well as all the things baby needs to welcome a new person in to their home.
What product are you in love with right now?
Oh that’s hard, there’s so many great ones. I’ve gotta say that I’m pretty much in love with anything Nook related. Nook is a big product that I love. I love the concept that everything is covered in this giant bubbly wrap. Nook products are a big thing in our home and a big thing that we sell a lot of at the store. Their nursing pillow by far is one of the best. It wasn’t around when my daughter was born, but you can use it as a nursing pillow and then when your child is learning how to sit up and then as an adult it makes the best side sleeping pillow. It’s the product that you’re going to use and never get rid of.
What makes you laugh?
That’s a tricky one. I think just a person with a good humour. You know, those people that you can have great conversations with, where you just end up laughing through it all.
What’s one thing that most customers don’t know about you?
I’ve been pretty good at predicting genders of children in pregnant moms when they come into the store. It’s a joke around here that friends tell friends to come in and ask for Cindy because she can predict the gender of the baby. I’ve maybe been wrong only about a dozen times in 10 years so that’s pretty good odds.
Ohh… And I was nearly chased by a black bear in Algonquin Park.
What do you like to do when you leave the office?
Just spend time with my family.
What do you love about working at Snuggle Bugz?
100% the people. I think over the last 10 years about the number of families and friends that I have met and it’s great that I’ve able to help them through that journey in their life. You can plan a wedding but having a baby is a whole different situation. When they come back in and they say they’re so happy to see a familiar face, it’s so nice to hear.
What’s your favourite drink?
I don’t really drink anything but water. (Interviewer: No coffee?) Nope.
But I do like Teavana Peach Bellinis!
Which of the Snuggle Bugz philosophies is really you?
I knew this question was coming, and I thought about all of them.
I do believe in all of them and see them encompassed in my life, but definitely the “We love people” piece is big. I’m a people person. It’s really important for me to get to know our friends, to know their name, their family and their dynamics. So being able to be part of so many people’s journeys over the last number of years as repeats is incredible.
What are you most proud of working at Snuggle Bugz?
I’m proud to say where I work simply because of the beliefs in which we do our job on a daily basis. We’re always out there every day to be the best at what we do and to provide new parents with the information they require to meet their needs.
What are you most excited about for the future?
I don’t know where this roller coaster is going to go. I can honestly say that when I started here as a part-time job 10 years ago I wouldn’t have said at that time I’d still be here. Having a child has changed my life, it gives you a new perspective and I’m so excited to be on this journey.
I don’t know where this ride is going to stop.
